Reading Rambo

#24in48 approaches once more, and as always, my main delight in it is making book stacks. I mean, how many of these will I in all likelihood read? Probably three. But piles of books are mine (everybody's?) favorite, so here it is. I'm especially excited for this #24in48, as I've rented a hotel room downtown, so I will be holed up and upping my reading stats on a couch I've paid to sit on for a few hours. Readathons are particularly great because they give you license to ignore the other things going on in life because of their organized nature. "What? I'm not just 'reading all day,' I am participating in a READATHON. With these other good people. It is a group activity that we all do separately in our own spaces and with our own snacks that we do not need to share because they are ours." 24in48, where we try to read for 24 hours out of 48, has come and gone once more. I managed 13 hours, which considering my usual average is 2, is excellent and I will take it. I attribute this to genuine planning this time and a remarkable lack of things to do that weekend. What did I finish! This past weekend was the 9th (??) 24in48 Readathon , where people try to read for 24 hours out of 48 total, because some of us are old and need sleep. Or young and need sleep. Basically we all like sleep. As with Dewey's Sleepless 24 Hour Readathon, I always make some kind of halfhearted attempt to participate. Halfhearted because my attention span is as that of the highly distractable gnat and I do not think I can do anything for 24 hours in a 2 day period. Also because, y'know, it's summer, and there're usually competing plans. SUCH AS I WENT WITH MY GF TO STARVED ROCK. Starved Rock is an Illinois state park, and the legend is that a band of American Indians were surrounded by two different tribes, and they made their last stand on a high-reaching rock. Where they then starved to death. And now we hike there and take selfies. The story isn't verified, but it's still depressingly called Starved Rock and we're all kinda like "okey dokey, let's ...

Let me amend the title – I am good at focusing in short bursts on things I'm obsessed with. But otherwise? Hahahaha no. But let's do this anyway! Sounds fun. And I haven't done a readathon in a while and I have so many books. So many. Let's get on to book selection! Which was done hastily 10 minutes ago before I leave to cat-sit and then do a Chicago Pokemon meetup because #priorities. I Hate Fairyland by Skottie Young . Something I love about Image (ONE OF MANY THINGS) is that they tend to price their volume ones at $9.99, which is an easy entry price. Then when you're hooked, bam! $15.99. But they're a business , guys. Gotta try to make some money. But yes, anyway, so I appreciate the initial low price thing.
