Showing posts with the label emma goldman was an imposing female

New York City, where I basically just stalked a dead woman. Wasn't too hard.

I AM RETURNED. Having walked the Brooklyn Bridge! Seen the sights of Broadway! Drank two grande iced mochas in a Starbucks while reading Where'd You Go, Bernadette ! Oh, it was a glorious time. As I did not attend BEA proper, you will have to refer to BookRiot or Emily's blog (when she writes about it) for posts on that. I am sure it was swell. I'm sad I missed Grumpy Cat. ALSO MICHELLE TEA. Because I'll bet she's kind of crazy. But in a fun way. And I wanted to hear about her new mermaid book. Mermaids. So hot right now. But I was BUSY getting closure on my Bessie Bueller story (to be told later this week) and stalking Emma Goldman's apartment like the most non-threatening stalker of all time. And meeting book bloggers! From L-R,  Rayna ,  Emily ,  Amanda , meee,  Alley Rest assured, they are all awesome. And a delightful time was had and they let me talk about women's suffrage for an allotted period and then we MOVED ON (eventually to Harry Pot...

Look at That, Not Even a Humorous David Tennant GIF

MY RESTRAINT, LET ME SHOW YOU IT. Because Doctor Who  minisodes have been uploaded to youtube, fresh from the UK (the DVDs don't come out here until tomorrow) and let me tell you, the teenage girls on tumblr have been expressive  about their feelings. Personally, I've just been rather twitchy and excited, but I still want to post gifs from the episodes everywhere and SHALL NOT, as this is a book blog and has nothing to do with Doctor Who, thankyouverymuch.  Except for that dream I had the other night where Alex Kingston asked if I wanted her to read aloud from Sophie's Choice  and I went "OMGYES" and then she did and it was awesome. I'm going to pick nine books from my Extremely Lengthy TBR List on goodreads and post them here, and if any of them suck I want you to let me know, yes? Very cool. Okay: A Great and Terrible Beauty, Libba Bray - I read Beauty Queens , and unlike some snobby snobs out there, highly enjoyed it. Or really enjoyed it. Maybe the latt...

Everyone Loves Turn-of-the-Century Novels!

I bought Catching Fire  for Kindle, because it wasn't even IN TRANSIT from the library, which means I won't get it for weeks. I'm finding myself becoming ridiculously belligerent about Peeta vs Gale, which is just silly because I've barely seen Gale so of COURSE I'm going to want Katniss to end up with Peeta. But my brain ignores this fact. "NO. I AM RIGHT AND EVERYONE ELSE IS WRONG." But, y'know, ingrained thought patterns and all. So let's talk about how Ragtime  is completely amazing and you should all read it. Daaaaaymn, E.L. Doctorow. I'm kind of a giant Broadway nerd, so in high school I was like "RAGTIIIIIIIME!" and checked out the cast recording from the library, as this was in the days before Spotify and mp3s and the like (*grumbles about kids today*). Liking it for the most part, I got the book, but being a teenage UBER-CHRISTIAN, around the 20th mention of sex I was completely disgusted and returned it unfinished. Now, of...
